The Descendants of Tarakona
Discovery of the Scar
Due to political maneuvering and the overly hopeful belief that the New Land truly was free of monsters, the walls of King’s Hope were delayed in their construction. Following the investigation in to the attempted assassination of Count Dashwood, it was discovered that one of the nobility in King’s Hope was plotting a take over. This nobel, Baron Wolsner, managed to escape the city, but not before threatening to return with an undead army.
Though it was questionable as to where such an army would come from, a scouting party was sent out to explore the mostly unknown land while the wall’s construction was made top priority. Knowing the winter would delay any army, there was hope that there would be enough time to ready the city’s defenses. The scouting party, who were from the famous (adventuring group name), made a startling discovery in the west of the New Land.
It was long known that King’s Hope rested on a peninsula and that the heavy storms and turbulent waters prevent ships from exploring much of the cost, but what the scouts found was frightening. What appeared to be a scar ran across the entire western side of the peninsula, continuing even into the seas around it. Bordering the scar on our side was a dark forest, and on the other side are towering mountains. The worst part was what inhabited the scar.
Thousands of undead, of many forms and varieties, wondered aimlessly within the gorge that made up the scar. Aimless, that is, until one steps over the boundary, into the scar. Immediately upon doing so, countless undead focus on the trespasser and begin moving to intercept. Thankfully, once outside the scar, these undead return to their aimless state.
In their investigation of the scar, the scouts also found a lone tower standing in the middle of the gorge. The only detail clearly visible was a glowing purple light emanating from its top. Near this area, evidence was found that someone had been luring undead out of the scar. It was assumed this was how Wolsner was building an army. Bringing this information back to King’s Hope, the (adventuring group) prepared to help defend the city.
